So You Think You found Mr. Wonderful

I found this list on a Blog and thought I would share it.

It's Spring, and many young people are looking for love! I felt to post these "oldies but goodies" for all those who are considering serious relationships. Sadly, I know many young Christian women who compromise. So, this post is actually a public service post for all those young ladies out there who think they have found "The One." Through my (a-hem) many years, I have seen lots of girls "fall in love" with guys for all the wrong reasons. Honey, money, big muscles, a hot car or, "he plays in a rock band" are not good reasons! So, here is a check list to give you some help.

1. How does he treat his mother/sisters? If he has no respect for these women in his life, what makes you think he will treat you any differently?

2. How does he handle his money? Although it might seem flattering now when he blows his whole paycheck to take you out someplace fancy, trust me, down the road you will see that paying the bills is even better.

3. Is he willing to help around the house, or does he consider things like washing dishes, scrubbing the floor and taking out the trash "women’s work?" If you hear those words leave his lips, run!

4. Is he stingy? Although it’s not good to be too lavish with spending, it is still important to have a generous spirit.

5. How does he handle criticism? Can his ego take it, or does he always have to be right? Is he willing to listen to wise counsel, or is he always defensive?

6. What does he laugh at? A man’s sense of humor can tell you a lot about him. If he doesn’t HAVE a sense of humor, make haste and leave!

7. Does he ask, or does he demand? Does he know how to be a servant, or does he expect to be served? Do you really want to spend the rest of your life with a man who won’t lift a finger to help?

8. Does he have a relationship with God? I am not just talking about whether or not he shows up at church. I mean, does he pray? Does he read the Bible? Is he committed to living his life in a God-pleasing way?

9. Does he tell the truth? Is he a man with integrity? Does he stretch the truth? Honey, you do NOT want to marry a liar.

10. Have you ever seen him really, really sick? How did he handle it? Is he a whiner?

11. Is he kind? Compassionate? Does he make jokes at the expense of others? Does he offer to help when he sees a need? Does he know how to be gentle and patient?

12. Does he have bad habits? He can make all kinds of promises about how he is going to change, but you are foolish if you commit to him before he HAS changed. Bad habits include smoking, drinking to excess, gambling, a filthy mouth, addiction to sports, and pornography. You deserve better.

13. Does he like children?

14. Does he have life goals? Is he going somewhere? Is he ambitious without being fanatical?

15. How does he behave when something makes him really angry? A moody man given to bouts of temper is not a man who can be relied upon.

16. Is he on time? Does he keep his word when he has agreed to do something?

17.Does he listen to you? Does he love and respect you enough to wait until marriage to have sex?

18. Can you pray together?

It is wonderful to be in love. It is wonderful to find your guy physically attractive. Just remember that there are many things to consider when you are making the HUGE decision to pledge your life to someone. Don’t just think with your heart and your emotions. Use the brain God gave you, and choose a man who is worthy of you! Being alone is far better than rushing into a relationship which isn’t right or blessed by God. You could spend a long, long time regretting it if you make the wrong choice.

Grammy, these 2 posts were very good. I read them out-loud to our 3 oldest children. Obviously, they have a while before they will need this advice, but we want to start preparing them now. =)
