Since I made a list for the ladies about finding your "Dream Guy," here is a list for the young men to ponder. I think that’s only fair, don’t you? What makes me think I am qualified to do this? Well, I have spent hours and hours and hours in the counseling room listening to people pour out their hearts about the problems they have in their marriages. Many of those problems may have been avoided if these people had used a bit more sense when choosing a mate! I also have two beautiful daughters whom I have tried, with God’s help, to raise to be great women. I have spent a lot of time thinking about God-pleasing qualities and I do think my girls are good examples. OK... I may be a bit prejudice there, but trust me, they are awesome.Gentleman, here are some questions to ask yourself. I am sure others could add more thoughts.
1. Does she inspire you to be a better person than you are now? Is she there to encourage you, listen to you and support you?
2. Can she keep a confidence? Is she a gossip? Is she catty? A woman who carries this spirit is not to be trusted.
3. What kind of relationship does she have with her father?
4. Is she vain? It’s great to have a girlfriend who takes care of herself and looks nice, but if she is afraid to work hard because she might mess up her hair or chip a nail, you may want to rethink.
5. How does she handle money? Is she wise with spending? Is she a giver?
6. Does she talk too much? Does she know how to be a good listener? Do you value her opinion? Can you discuss things together?
7. Is she kind? Is she sweet and gentle without being a doormat? Does she have a humble, gracious attitude?
8. Is she clingy? It might seem flattering right now to be needed so much, but trust me, it gets old pretty fast. Do you really want to spend your whole life with someone who has to have your complete attention every minute?
9. Is she serious about her Christian walk?
10. Does she have goals and dreams which line up with yours? If you have a call on your life to be a missionary or pastor, and she doesn’t want that kind of life, what will you do? What if you want to be a farmer and she loves big city life?
11. Is she mature? Is she confident? Is she respectful? Is she pure and godly? This is an attitude of the heart which is revealed in speech, dress, tastes, worship and behavior.
12. Does she have to be the center of attention, or does she know how to be part of the team? Is she willing to step back and serve others or does she expect to be in the front?
13. Do you like her mother? More often than not, the daughter is going to be a reflection of her Mom.
14. Does she value the things you value? Does she need things to make her happy, or can she find joy in relationships, service, worship, learning, and giving?
15. What does she laugh at? Does she make jokes at the expense of others? Can she laugh at herself?
16. Does she enjoy simple things, or does every date have to be an expensive, major production? Does she have a "princess mentality?"
17. Is she dependable? Is she on time? Is she truthful? Is she faithful?
18. Does she have courage to stand up for what is right? Can she do it without being overbearing or annoying?
19. Does she ever try to manipulate you with tears or by withholding affection? Does she punish you with silence? This behavior does not make for a healthy relationship.
20. Can she handle criticism with grace? Does she learn from her mistakes?
21. Is she a whiner and complainer? How does she react when she is sick, angry or under some kind of stress?
22. Does she like children and old people? Do they like her? I know this may seem like a silly question, but kids and the elderly are often a good judge of character.
23. What attracted you to her in the first place? You do realize that parts of her will wrinkle and sag eventually.
Do you like what’s inside of that package?"Charm and grace are deceptive, and beauty is vain [because it is not lasting], but a woman who reverently and worshipfully fears the Lord, she shall be praised!" (Proverbs 31:30 AMP)
